I adore yoga. I admittedly don’t give yoga back the love that it gives to me. I practice, I love, I get distracted, I fail to practice for a long period of time, I think of it longingly one day, and I cycle back into practice. One day I decided to go to a Bikram studio (this one actually) which first opened my eyes to the doubly awesomeness that is hot yoga. As that very studio recently posted on facebook:
While yoga has always helped me tap into my deeper self and work through things effortlessly, hot yoga was even better. You can read about that very first day at hot yoga here. So, to sum up: hot yoga only compounded my problem: now I REALLY love yoga and cannot afford the time or dollars that it costs so my cycle is all that worse.
We have since moved and that Bikram studio is no longer within walking distance. Actually, no yoga studios are within walking distance. So, along came the time when I think back on yoga longingly and was suddenly staring down the additional task of venturing to a new, closer studio for the first time. Doing things for the first time is really not comfortable. My heart races a little when I do it. I feel scared walking in and keep waiting to screw something up quite badly. That hasn’t happened yet and I promise that the discomfort of new things, should you be someone who does not like to partake of them often, is over before you know it. The rewards, on the other hand, far, far outweigh the risks.
The other day I ventured to a new studio. This one was independent of Bikram but still hot and just as wonderful. I found it at a place called Evolation Yoga where their classes include:
Hot 90
temp: 105° time: 90 min
Get ready to stretch, strengthen, and sweat! Practiced in a hot room, this yoga class is designed for the experienced student, or the beginner who iss looking for a greater challenge. Physically intense postures are taught in tandem with meditation, which translates to a complete workout for your body – and your mind. Now, thats hot.
Flow 75
temp: 80° time: 75 min
Get in the flow with this dynamic blend of fundamentals and new frontiers at a powerful, exhilarating pace. Students of all levels will build flexibility, strength, and inner freedom as we flow through movement, breathing, and meditation in a fun and exploratory way.
Warm 60
temp: 90° time: 60 min
Warm up to the transformative properties of yoga and meditation with this class that hits all the evolation highlights in just 60 minutes. Good for beginners, the pace is designed to bring awareness to correct form and breathing techniques – nurturing your practice into something that will continually nurture you.
Chill 30
meditation time: 30 min
A 30-min seated mediation. Immediately following each Warm 60 class, this meditation session gives you some peaceful time with your Self to foster internal focus, calm, and stillness. There is no extra charge for meditation; simply stay after class and ”chill out.” (Drop-ins for mediation are also welcome.)
Can I tell you how much I love how they style their “offerings?” As you probably guessed, I went straight for the hot 90. I breezed through the awkward “I’m new here” registration, dumped what little luggage I had in the changing room and spread out on the floor in the yoga room waiting for class to start.
Ahhhh…. melt into the floor….
I discovered all over again how much I love it. I’m sore but aching to go back!

I’ve never tried hot yoga before. Actually, yoga in general makes me nervous. I feel like I can’t sit still that long. The more I read and hear about it though, the more awesome it sounds. Thanks for sharing you experience!

This was the perfect blog post for me today because I’m going to a yoga class tonight while my youngest is at soccer practice. I’m really looking forward to it (even more now)… it’s not hot yoga (which I might one day try), but it’ll be good for me.

While I was living back in Canada during the summer months I practiced hot yoga religiously and LOVED it. I felt as though it really helped my running endurance and form. Now that I’m back in The Netherlands, I have yet to find a hot yoga studio. Although there are regular classes, it just doesn’t have the same effect on me!
